Steering Dampers & Stabilizers

What does a steering stabilizer or steering damper do?

Steering stabilizers and dampers absorb the energy sent through the front axle from the road, reducing the impact on steering. Unlike suspension shocks, steering stabilizers are aligned horizontally with equal compression and rebound pressure.

Can I use a regular shock for a steering stabilizer?

No. Shocks are designed to rest in an expanded position. Steering stabilizers and dampers have a neutral position, with equal resistance each way. Driving would prove to be frustrating, and you will fight bump steer everywhere.
