Intercoolers

What is an intercooler?

The primary function of the intercooler is to reduce the temperature of the hot air compressed by the turbocharger prior to reaching the combustion chamber. The cooler air from the intercooler significantly improves the combustion process in turbo-charged engines, which increases horsepower.

What is the difference between a radiator and intercooler?

A radiator removes heat from the engine coolant to keep the engine cooler. An intercooler removes heat coming from the turbo before it hits the intake, so the air entering the combustion chambers is colder. A radiator is water-to-air while the intercooler is air to air.
