Ignition Coils and Coil Packs

What is the difference between an ignition coil and a coil pack?

The ignition coil generates a high voltage pulse which is carried to the spark plugs via spark plug wires. Coil packs are a set of computer-guided coils, usually mounted on the engine bank over the heads, that bypasses a distributor and takes, and delivers spark to the spark plugs via short ignition cables.
